Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge -
Location: Just Outside the city of Ridgefield located on the Columbia River -
What: Ducks and Geese -
How: Permit only hunting unit (must get drawn for blind selection) 25 blinds are set up and assigned. All goose hunters in this county must be certified by WDFW to hunt geese. Call Olympia or the WDFW Region 5 Office for information about goose testing. Call the Ridgefield Office in advance at (360) 887-4106 for more information about their hunting opportunities and reservation system. Vancouver Lake Wildlife Area -
Location: From I-5 north of Vancouver, take the Fourth Plain Boulevard exit and head west to Fruit Valley Road. Turn right and go to Laframbois Road. Turn left. Follow the road to the Wildlife Area parking lot. -
What: Ducks and Geese and pheasants -
How: set up on any Washington-side shore line. Two blinds are located around the Shillapoo Wildlife Area. All goose hunters in this county must be certified by WDFW to hunt geese. One is usually about ½ mile from the gate depending on the level of the lake. The other blind is located in the south unit of the Shillapoo Wildlife Area. There is a boat launch on the South side of the lake just off of fruit valley rd.
Shilapoo North Unit Wildlife Area -
Location: From I-5, take the Fourth Plain Boulevard exit (1D) and head west to Fourthe Plain. After 2 miles, fourth plain splits, head to the northwest on HWY 501. This dead ends in 2 miles. The unit is on the west side of the highway. There are pullouts along hwy 501 and lower river road. -
What: Ducks and Geese and pheasants -
How: 882 acres and 1.5 miles of shoreline on Lake River.

Columbia River -
Location: any boat launch -
What: Ducks and Geese -
How: set up on any Washington-side sand bar or island. Big water here, watch for ships!. No public land is known at this time. A few Washington-side boat ramps to launch from.
Silver Lake -
Location: east of Castle Rock out Hwy 504 -
What: Ducks and Geese -
How: Boat launch on the Northeast section of the lake. Set up anywhere in the reeds along the shoreline. The southern shore is Weyerhauser.
Lots of very shallow reedy areas with cattails. The ducks are
thick in here when the weather pushes them down from the north.

Swofford Wildlife Area -
Location: From I-5 north of Vancouver, take US12 (20.12 mi) turn right at mossy rock/williams st (.4 mi) turn left at E state st (.5 mi) continue on Mossyrock rd E (2.2mi) Slight right at Swofford rd (.3 mi) slight left to stay on Swofford rd (1.4 mi) Turn left at Green Mountatin rd (.4 mi) Turn right to stay on green mountain rd (.1 mi) -
What: Ducks and Geese and pheasants -
How: 300 acres in total with waterfowl habitat all over the unit. There is a large pond in the unit that can accommodate a good decoy set. Fishing is popular here so be prepared for fisherman in early season waterfowling. The boat launch is on the east end of the lake.

Julia Butler Hansen National Wildlife Refuge -
Location: North of Cathlamet -
What: Ducks and Geese -
How: Hunting geese, ducks, coot and snipe is permitted along the shoreline on the refuge portion of Hunting and Wallace Islands. You may be fortunate to see one of the protected Columbian Whitetail Deer at this unit.

Steam Plant -
Location: North on Hwy 507 out of Centralia. Go west out on the Big Hanaford Rd -
What: Ducks and Geese and Pheasant -
How: Past the steam plant are a few WDFW controlled fields and ponds. Small water but ducks will trade out of the valley. There is a pheasant release site here as well. Check with the WDFW to check release information.
Chehalis River -
Location: A number of public launches are available on this river. -
What: Ducks and Geese -
How: Hunt the back waters and the sloughs. The ducks come out of the private farmlands and look for place to land in the water. There can be terrific shooting on this river.
